This is something that has been spoken about a lot more recently.
Everyone is eating at the desk at home or in the office, eating quickly while focussing on work and the latest Netflix show and not actually paying any attention to the food on their plate.
Have you ever gone to get more food, realised there is nothing on your plate and then thought, Jesus I ate that already, I’m starving?!
Yeah…. I have too. 😰
Here's a really, really, easy test, takes 1-2 minutes, but DO IT.
Eat 1 slice of Pizza as quickly as you can - now depending on your toppings etc that could easily be 200+ calories. It’s Fats(cheese), Carbs (base), Protein (cheese and meat toppings), maybe even some veg (if you’re like me you’ll have mushroom and peppers, maybe even spinach) but if we're honest that's not why we buy pizza!.
That 1 slice has some serious calories and substance to it right? Full of different textures and tastes, it’s an experience 😂
Eat it as quickly as you can (please do not choke, do it safely)
Then grab a carrot - focus on the crunch, the feeling you get as you chew the carrot, the texture, the flavour, chew at least 15-20 times, swallow and then and only then take another bite. Repeat this until you have eaten the whole thing.

That’s a very basic test, but it proves the point perfectly.
That’s kind of how you should eat, I know sometimes time isn’t on your side so you can’t dedicate as much time/effort into eating a full meal 3/4 times a day, but the principles of it stand.
When you eat focus on your food, the tastes, textures, chew your food a bit longer, do not take another mouthful until you have finished the one before, don’t eat in front of the TV, don’t eat and work, take the time to eat your food with no distractions and enjoy your meal.
Honestly it will make a huge difference, you will feel fuller, you won’t get as hungry, you will enjoy your food more, even if you just want to maintain your weight you will enjoy your meal time more.
I know it seems basic and like it wouldn’t work but I promise the effect it can have on appetite is incredible. If you can control that and the types of snacks you have, then you're onto a winner.
